Celebrate 15 Years of Akumu Ink® with Our Re-Released Just Another Birthday Storybook!
To mark Akumu Ink®'s 15-year anniversary, we’re thrilled to re-release a fully redrawn edition of our very first storybook that we made back in 2015. The original book was funded through Kickstarter, and has been sold out since 2017. This project was close to our hearts that we decided to update it and re-release it. This new edition features a special silver foil “15 Year Anniversary” stamp.
The book, which follows a boy’s dark adventure on his birthday, features 13 original full-page illustrations, each completely redrawn to enhance the eerie charm of our beloved characters. Written by Aldora Kwee, and illustrated by Joey Poulin, the creative minds and co-owners of Akumu Ink®.
How It All Began
The idea for the book came on Halloween 2014, during a comic convention in Los Angeles. After attending a Danny Elfman concert that same Halloween, it left us feeling really inspired, we decided to create a storybook featuring our Akumu Ink® characters. What began as a simple idea just linking our characters together, quickly transformed into its own thing. Because of the overwhelming support we received through Kickstarter for the original Just Another Birthday book, it allowed us to create Alice's Nightmare in Wonderland and Nightmare Fairytales.
After 7 years of creating art and t-shirt designs, we wanted Akumu Ink to be seen as more than just a “t-shirt company.” Creating our first book allowed for Joey to expand his artistic vision beyond t-shirt designs, and brought Aldora into a more creative role as a writer and storyteller. Since 2015, the husband and wife collaborated on 3 more books together.
This isn’t just a reprint, it’s a fully redrawn edition, capturing our original vision with fresh illustrations. The hardcover book (26 cm x 26 cm) contains 26 pages of dark, quirky artwork that embodies the current Akumu Ink® style. Shipped from the Netherlands and available worldwide, this special edition is a unique collector’s item with the silver foil stamp marking the occasion.
